In August 2013 I was invited to perform Love.abz at ZKM (Centre for Art and Media Karlsruhe) for the KAMUNA (Karlsruhe Museums Night) Festival.

This work by Otso Huopaniemi involves live dramatic writing, complicated and enhanced by the use of voice recognition technology and google translate.

In the words of Otso, “love.abz invites the audience to reconsider the fundamental acts of reading and writing, as well as the complex relationship between humans and the digital tools that increasingly shape their lives. It introduces a form of 1) improvisatory, 2) collaborative, 3) live dramatic writing that Huopaniemi has developed in rehearsals together with the performers. Machine translation and speech recognition technology are the main tools that have lent themselves to the purposes of this writing method. Harnessing the comical potential these technologies afford, love.abz celebrates the playfulness of writing, in earnest.”

“Wer ist der Mächtigste auf Erden?” at the Lucerne Festival

In August I spent a brilliant week performing concerts in the Lucerne Festival with the clair-obscur saxophone quartet.

We performed our childrens project “Wer ist der Mächtigste auf Erden? with music by Bohuslav Martinu and my illustrations. Many thanks to the Lucerne Festival and the Martinu Festtage for supporting this project and for a wonderful week in a beautiful city.

The childrens book of this project will be published in 2014. More news on that soon…

This weekend is the preview of my new music theatre project with the composer Max Maintz. 21st and 22nd September at 8pm in the Alte TU Mensa, Hardenbergstraße 35, Berlin.

I will be performing solo new music theatre works for saxophone that I created with the help of the director Michael Schneider and Max.

The works deal with what it’s really like to be a musician…

This project has been kindly supported by the Rusch Stiftung, KKWV, KlangKunstBühne and KLANGZEITORT – Institut Neue Musik.

¡Stimuli Teaser!

On the 26th May we will be performing a sneak preview of parts of Stimuli – my multimedia performance project.

Elements of the full project will be combined with other material from the composer Larry Goves and the poet Jack Underwood.

I massively looking forward to this concert, especially as Larry and Jack are coming to Berlin to perform. Jack will be reciting his own poetry (with German translations provided) and Larry will be performing live electronics, featuring some tracks from his new album A crèche for the lonely and peculiar.

There’s something for everyone – new music, video, poetry, animation, theatre, electronic ambient music.

See you there.

Elsa Neumann Scholarship

Currently working on Stimuli for which I was awarded an Elsa-Neumann-Scholarship. In this year long project I will be collaborating with Larry Goves, Luke Bedford, Jack Underwood, Rachel Helleur and Jordi Bitlloch. I’ll be producing new videos and animations as well as performing and composing. Performances in Berlin and the UK next year. Look under the Stimuli header for more information.
